A Quiet Time With God

If we Christians are going to be strong in the Lord, we need to find time to be alone with God.

When we are busy our hearts and minds are occupied, but when we are alone and still, it’s easier for us to hear the Lord speak to us.

The value of a daily quiet time is clearly demonstrated in the life of the Lord Jesus. He took time to be alone with the Father (Matt. 14:23; Luke 6:12).

You and I should never fear being alone with the Lord. He only has good plans for us,

Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

A Humble Surrender

Jesus chose Peter, knowing it would take grace and love to change his hang-ups and pride into a vessel of honor.

His attempt to live the Christian life his way left him crying like a baby after denying the Lord three times.

Humiliated, Peter surrendered to Jesus and on the Day of Pentecost preached a message and 3,000 souls were saved.

If we want the blessings of God on our lives, we must allow Him to  mold us, to humble us, to make us less self-reliant and more like Him. Surrendering often involves tribulations.

When we can humbly say, “Lord, You’re will—not mine,”  then Jesus can use us, and we will receive blessings.

1 Peter 5:5. God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

Romans 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Faithful Promises

In this world we can’t trust all we’re told.  People change and promises fail. But the promises of God are forever. They never fail. That’s what makes them precious and valuable to the child of God.

2 Pet 1:4, "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."

There is the promise of His Love - Rom. 8:38-39; Jer. 31:3

There Is the promise of His Presence - Matt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5

There is the promise of His Provision - Phil. 4:19; Matt. 6:25-33

There is the promise of His Grace - 2 Cor. 2:9

There is the promise of His Heaven - John 14:1-3; Rev. 21:4

It has been said that there are over 7,000 promises in the holy Scriptures. I’ve never counted them personally, but I know this; Every promise God ever made, He will bring to pass.

When Life Hurts

Sometimes life hurts. Maybe you’ve been there or are there now or know someone who is. When it happens, there is help and hope for those who personally know the Lord.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

In case you thought no one cares—God does, more than you know.

When the Lord doesn’t answer, keep on praying. Remember, He hears and cares. He loves you.

Never give up. Be brave. Hold fast. Have faith. Fear not. Stay strong. Did I say pray hard?

If you don’t know God personally, seek Him to come into your heart and forgive your sins.
