Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Lamentations 3:22-23  It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not

[23] They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Just as every new day brings it’s problems, so each day witnesses a new, unfailing, all-sufficient supply of God’s marvelous, matchless, wonderful, amazing grace.

God’s faithfulness is seen in the fact that we woke up this morning in our right minds with air to breath, food to eat, people we love around us, etc.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,  —    There is no shadow of turning with Thee.  —    Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not.  —    As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

CHORUS:

Great is Thy faithfulness!  —    Great is Thy faithfulness!  —    Morning by morning new mercies I see.  —    All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.  —    Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest;  —  Sun, moon and stars in their courses above  —    Join with all nature in manifold witness  —    To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,  —   Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;  —    Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,  —    Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

Thomas O. Chisholm  1923

How Great Thou Art

 Psalm 8:3-4,9 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

[4] What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

[9] O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

"How Great Thou Art" is a hymn based on a Swedish poem written by Carl Gustav Boberg in 1885, the melody a Swedish folk song.

Stuart K. Hine, a British Missionary, translated it from Russian to English and added two original verses of his own composition.

Though only a paraphrase, it captures the original awe and wonder of Carl Boberg's poem.

Hine added the third verse about his amazement that Jesus would die for our sins.

Sing this song and worship.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,    —   Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;    —   I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,    —   Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

CHORUS:

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,    —   How great Thou art, How great Thou art.    —   Then sings my soul, My Savior  God, to Thee,    —   How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander, — And hear the  birds sing sweetly in the trees.    —   When I look down, from lofty mountains grandeur    —   And see the brook, and feel the gentile breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;  —  Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;    —   That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,    —   He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation, — And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.    —   Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,    —   And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing

1 Corinthians 15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

The Apostle Paul tells of God’s Grace in his life.

The dictionary defines grace as, "unmerited help given to people by God."

But Grace is much more than that. This definition is more thorough:

"The merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues."

That is grace! Without the Grace of God where would we be?

Come, Thou Fount Of Every Blessing

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,    —    Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;    —    Streams of mercy, never ceasing,    —    Call for songs of loudest praise.    —    Teach me some melodious sonnet,    —    Sung by flaming tongues above;    —    Praise His Name! I’m fixed upon it,    —    Name of God’s redeeming love.

Oh, to grace how great a debtor,    —    Daily I’m constrained to be!    —    Let Thy goodness like a fetter,    —    Bind my yielded heart to Thee.    —    Prone to wander, Lord I feel it,    —    Prone to leave the God I love.     —    Here’s my heart, oh take and seal it,    —    Seal it for Thy courts above.

Robert Robinson   1758

Jesus, Hold My Hand

Knowing we are never alone is a great blessing.

It means that in every valley, every dark night of the soul, every illness, every situation in life—we have the blessed presence of the Lord to sustain us and comfort us. [Matt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5].

When we can’t see God, the Lord is holding our hand.

Sometimes it’s hard to pray or we feel weak in faith.

That’s when we need to reach out to Jesus, whether to confess a sin or for assurance. He is there. He was there all the time.

Psalm 73:23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

Jesus, Hold My Hand

As I travel through this pilgrim land,   —    There is a friend who walks with me.   —    Leads me safely through the sinking sand,   —    It is the Christ of Calvary.   —    This would be my prayer, dear Lord, each day   —    To help me do the best I can; —   For I need Thy light to guide me day and night,   —    Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.

CHORUS:

Jesus, hold my hand,   —    I need Thee every hour.   —    Through this pilgrim land,   —    Protect me by Thy power.   —    Hear my feeble plea   —    O Lord, look down on me.   —    When I kneel in prayer   —    I want to meet You there,   —    Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.

Let me travel in the light divine  —  That I may see the blessed way. — Keep me that I may be wholly Thine — And sing 'Redemption's Song' some day.   —    I will be a soldier brave and true —  And ever firmly take a stand. — As I onward go and daily meet the foe,   —    Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.
