Karoline Sandell, born on October 3, 1832 at Froderyd, Sweden, accompanied her father on a journey to Gothenburg when she was twenty-six. Their ship gave a sudden lurch and her father fell overboard and drowned. From this experience came this precious hymn.

DAY BY DAY
Day by day and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Give unto each day what He deems best;
Lovingly, it’s part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.
Every day the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour,
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counselor and Power.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As your days, your strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.
Help me then in every tribulation,
So to trust Your promises, Oh, Lord
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation,
Offered me within Your holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a Father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land

The highest spot in the USA is Mt. Whitney in California. You can stand on top and see a wide territory. Eighty miles Southeast is Death Valley. It is the lowest spot in America and is known to be the hottest place in our country. You can only look up.

Ephesians 2:4,5 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us; even when we were dead in sins hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved.

People don’t have to climb out of the lowest depth to find God. It’s not something you do with your own power. It's simple faith. Climbing would be works, not grace. They don’t have to climb Mt. Whitney to get closer to God. Jesus will reach to the lowest depth, carry even the worst sinner out of the pit and take them to great heights when they believe on Him. It’s grace. Unmerited favor.

Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

You don’t get any higher than that. God is good. Have you been quickened?

In the early 1970s I worked for a small weekly newspaper. The electric typewriter somehow punched tiny holes in yellow ticker-tape paper about 1-1/2 inches wide. When I finished an article, I connected the rolled tape to a computer the size of a refrigerator. It read the codes and spit out the article. Today reporters feed stories from lap tops or IPads.

As technology increased, America’s morality decreased. Vulgar innuendos, blushed at in the 1950s, brazenly splash prime time television today.

Robert H. Bork, the ultra-conservative judge who was thrashed by liberals when nominated for the Supreme Court years ago, wrote a book in 1996 about it.. “Slouching Towards Gomorrah” is about the decline of America’s culture. He said, “A nation’s moral life is the foundation of its culture.” The dive started during the Vietnam war in the 1960s. We need to put the brakes on. God have mercy on America.
After Christ gathers his children in the air – the rapture, chaos and wickedness become rampant on earth. The tribulation begins, as referred to in scripture. Right now signs of the end time revolve around Israel. How are we going to disarm North Korea and Iran? Who can fix the economic ruin of Europe?

A man called the Antichrist will rise in power to solve these problems. Under the guise of world peace and safety, people will flock to him. Then God hurls His vengeance upon the earth with trouble as never seen before. The end is near. Those caught up to be with the Lord will miss the tribulation. The rapture could be any day. I’m ready.

See the bright lights shine
It’s just about home time
I can see my father standing at the door
This world has been a wilderness
I’m ready for deliverance
Lord, I’ve never been this homesick before.

As Jesus moved through villages, healing the sick and casting out devils, He saw a man named Matthew, a tax collector. “Follow me,” he said. Just as Peter, James, and John left their fishing nets, Matthew got up and went with Him.

To follow Jesus, reading the Bible and praying every day is a must. That's where you get following instructions. It’s the vitamins of the spiritual life. The Book of Mathew is a good place to start reading.

Years ago when I worked, I just couldn’t find time to read the Bible. I wanted to. The Lord showed me that I had to set priorities and make it happen. I started getting up thirty minutes earlier. After the forty-minute drive into Little Rock, I read my Bible in the parking lot at work before going inside.

Find time to be alone with God every day. God’s word is powerful. It prepares you for the storms of life.
