What A Friend We Have In Jesus

John 15:14-15 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

[15] Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Our relationship with God becomes a reality at the moment when saving faith is exercised.

Our friendship is not automatic, but it is conditioned upon our obedience to His commands.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus,   —    All our sins and griefs to bear!   —    What a privilege to carry   —    Everything to God in prayer!   —    Oh, what peace we often forfeit,   —    Oh, what needless pain we bear,   —    All because we do not carry   —    Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? — Is there trouble anywhere?  — We should never be discouraged   —    Take it to the Lord in prayer.   —    Can we find a friend so faithful,   —    Who will all our sorrows share? — Jesus knows our every weakness; — Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,   —    Cumbered with a load of care?   —    Precious Savior, still our refuge   —    Take it to the Lord in prayer. — Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? —  Take it to the Lord in prayer!   —    In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,   —    Thou wilt find a solace there.

Victory In Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our victory is in Jesus.

When He came to this world, lived a perfect life, died on the cross and rose from the dead, He defeated every enemy, even the sting of death.

Victory In Jesus.

I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from Glory;  —  How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me. — I heard about his groaning, of his precious blood's atoning,    —   Then I repented of my sins, and won the Victory.

CHORUS

Oh, Victory in Jesus, my Savior forever.    —   He sought me and he bought me with His redeeming blood.    —   He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him    —   He plunged me to Victory, beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing, of His cleansing power revealing; — How He made the lame to walk again and caused the blind to see.    —   And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit.",    —   And some how Jesus came and brought to me the Victory. - - -

I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory,    —   And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea; — About the angels singing, and the old redemption story,    —   And some sweet day I'll sing up there the song of Victory! - - -

Leaning On The Everlasting Arms

Deuteronomy 33:27  The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

So thankful the good Lord didn’t leave us helpless in this wearisome world.

We can lean on Him for strength and comfort. The battle is His.

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms;    —    What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms.

CHORUS:

Leaning, leaning,    —    Safe and secure from all alarms;    —

Leaning, leaning,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms;    —    Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms. - - -

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms?    —    I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms. - - -

Wonderful Peace

Psalm 29:11 The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The peace of God comes with total surrender to God in all things.

It’s the peace of God in the times of trouble.

It’s the peace of God that overwhelms our worries and that helps us to rest in the will of God even when we can’t see what lies ahead.

Wonderful Peace

Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight   —    Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;   —    In celestial-like strains it unceasingly falls   —    O’er my soul like an infinite calm.

CHORUS:

Peace, peace, wonderful peace,   —    Coming down from the Father above!   —    Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray   —    In fathomless billows of love!

What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace,   —    Buried deep in the heart of my soul,   —    So secure that no power can mine it away,   —    While the years of eternity roll! - - -

I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,   —    Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control;   —    For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,   —    And His glory is flooding my soul! - - -

And I think when I rise to that city of peace,   —    Where the Author of peace I shall see,   —    That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing   —    In that heavenly kingdom will be: - - -

O soul, are you here without comfort and rest,   —    Marching down the rough pathway of time?   —    Make Jesus your friend ere the shadows grow dark;   —    Oh, accept this sweet peace so sublime! - - -

Jesus Is Lord Of All

Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The secret of holy living is surrendering to God;

By filling the mind with the Word of God.

By ordering one's life after the teachings and commands of God.

By cutting oneself off from the influences of the world.

By allowing the Spirit of God to control your mind.

By allowing Jesus to be Lord of all.

CHORUS:

King of kings, Lord of lords,    —   Jesus is Lord of all;    —   All my possessions and all my life,     —   Jesus is Lord of all.

All of my conflicts, all my thought, — Jesus is Lord of all. — His love wins the battles I could not have fought; — Jesus is Lord of all.

Praise Him! Praise Him!

Psalm 146:2 While I live will I praise the Lord : I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

If we are saved, we are God’s children, secure in Jesus forever.

We are headed to a city called Heaven.

Those things are ours and cannot be touched by this world, by time or by Satan.

We have a reason to praise God even when life is harsh.

Praise Him! Praise Him!

The Old Rugged Cross

Philippians 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus (man and God) died in horrible agony so that you and I might live in boundless glory.

In His death He provided a redemption that is sufficient for all who believe, 1 Pet. 1:18-19; demonstrating His boundless love for sinners, Rom. 5:8;

The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,    —    the emblem of suffering and shame;    —    And I love that old cross where the dearest and best    —    for a world of lost sinners was slain.

CHORUS:

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,    —    till my trophies at last I lay down;    —    I will cling to the old rugged cross,    —    and exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,    —    has a wondrous attraction for me;    —    for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above    —    to bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, — a wondrous beauty I see,    —    For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,    —   to pardon and sanctify me.

To that old rugged cross I will ever be true,    —    its shame and reproach gladly bear;    —    Then he'll call me some day to my home far away,    —    where his glory forever I'll share.
