Sweet Hour of Prayer

Hebrews 4:15-16 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

[16] Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need

Because Jesus understands human experience and because He has successfully endured the full force of temptation, He is able to help us as with whatever we face in life.

So come boldly before His throne.

Sweet Hour of Prayer

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!    —   That calls me from a world of care,    —   And bids me at my Father’s throne    —   Make all my wants and wishes known.    —   In seasons of distress and grief,    —   My soul has often found relief, — And oft escaped the tempter’s snare,    —   By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!    —   The joys I feel, the bliss I share, — Of those whose anxious spirits burn  — With strong desires for thy return!    —   With such I hasten to the place    —  Where God my Savior shows His face,    —   And gladly take my station there,    —   And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!    —   Thy wings shall my petition bear    —   To Him whose truth and faithfulness    —   Engage the waiting soul to bless.    —   And since He bids me seek His face, — Believe His Word and trust His grace, — I’ll cast on Him my every care,    —   And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!    —   May I thy consolation share,    —   Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,    —   I view my home and take my flight.    —   This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise  — To seize the everlasting prize,  — And shout, while passing through the air,    —  “Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

William W. Walford   1845

‘Til The Storm Passes By

Isaiah 25:4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

I thank God for the storms He brought me through, ever drawing me close with peace and assurance.

This is one of my favorites.

‘Til The Storm Passes By

__________________________

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face,   —    While the storm howls above me and there's no hiding place.   —    'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry.   —    Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

CHORUS:

Till the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, — Till the clouds roll forever from the sky.   —    Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand.   —    Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try,   —    For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by."   —    But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise   —    Where the storms never darken the skies.

When the long night has ended and the storms come no more,   —   Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore.   —    In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I —    Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.

We Are So Blessed

Psalm 84:11-12 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

[12] O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

This Thanksgiving day, as we consider the many blessings the Lord has sent our way, how can we not be humbled?

We Are So Blessed

We are so blessed by the gifts from your hand;    —   I just can't understand    —   Why you've loved us so much.    —   We are so blessed,    —  We just can't find a way    —   Or the words that can say, "Thank you Lord for your touch."

When we're empty you fill us 'til we overflow.    —   When we're hungry you feed us and cause us to know.    —   We are so blessed take what we have to bring.    —   Take it all everything.    —   Lord, we love you so much.

We are so blessed by the things You have done,    —   The victories we've won,     —   and what You've brought us through.    —   We are so blessed, take what we have to bring.    —   Take it all, everything. Lord, we bring it to you.

Count Your Blessings

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

God has done so much for us that we could never repay Him.

The least we can do is be thankful for His gracious gifts because that is His will for every Christian.

Count Your Blessings

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed;   —    When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,   —    Count your many blessings, name them one by one,   —    And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

CHORUS:

Count your blessings, name them one by one.   —    Count your blessings, see what God has done.   —    Count your blessings, name them one by one,   —    Count your many blessings, see what God has done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?   —    Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?   —    Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,   —    And you will keep singing as the days go by.

When you look at others with their lands and gold, —  Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;   —    Count your many blessings—money cannot buy    —    Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,   —    Do not be discouraged, God is over all;   —    Count your many blessings, angels will attend,   —    Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Thanks To Him

Psalm 106:1 Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

This time of year is when we need to count our blessings and consider the God Who gave us our blessings.

We need to assess the state of our worship of God as well.

Thanks To Him

When I don't understand He forgives me,    —   And He holds my hand through the storm.    —   Just a mention of His name heals the wound and takes the pain,    —   And I'll never be the same thanks to Him

Chorus

Thanks to Him! Thanks to Him! — I'll never be the same, Thanks to Him. —  Thanks to Him! Thanks to Him! — I'll never be the same, Thanks to Him.

When I feel all alone He's my comfort, — And His tender words fill me soul.  — Just a mention of His name heals the wound and takes the pain, —  And I'll never be the same thanks to Him.

The Promise

Hebrews 13:5-6  Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

[6] So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Regardless of where the path of life leads, the saint of God will never walk alone.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

You may not recognize this song, “The Promise” (sung on Utube by The Martins), but the words were such an encouragement to me that I just had to share.

The Promise

__________________________

I never said that I would give you silver or gold    —    Or that you would never feel the fire or shiver in the cold.  —  But I did say you'd never walk through this world alone,  —  And I did say, don't make this world your home.

I never said that fear wouldn't find you in the night    —    Or that loneliness was something you'd never have to fight.    —    But I did say I'd be right there by your side,    —    And I did say I'll always help you fight.

'Cause you know I made a promise that I intend to keep.  —  My grace will be sufficient in every time of need,    —    And my love will be the anchor that you can hold onto. —  This is the promise, this is the promise I made to you.

I never said that friends would never turn their backs on you — Or that the world around you wouldn't see you as a fool. — But I did say like me you'll surely be despised,  —  And I did say my ways confound the wise.

I didn't say you'd never taste the bitter kiss of death  —  Or have to walk through chilly Jordan to enter into rest. —  But I did say I'd be waiting right on the other side,  —  And I did say I'll dry every tear you cry.

'Cause you know I made a promise that I've prepared a place,— And some day sooner than you think you'll see me face to face;  —    And you'll sing with the angels and a countless multitude.    —    This is the promise, this is the promise I've made to you.

So just keep on walkin', don't turn to the left or right, — And in the midst of darkness, let this be your light:  —  That hell can't separate us and you're gonna make it through.  —  This is the promise, this is the promise I made to you.
