The Power That Works In Us

If we Christians want God’s power working in us, we must spend time daily in the Word of God. We must also pray.

Ephesians 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,  .  .  .

God’s Word and prayer go together (Acts 6:4).  The Holy Spirit is closely related to the practice of prayer in our lives (Rom. 8:26-27).

Romans 8:26-27  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

There’s nothing impossible with God. Nothing. Study the Word.  Pray and submit to His will. Then stand back and see the “Glory of God”.

Day By Day Faith

God gives us the strength we need according to our daily requirements. We mustn’t make the mistake of trying to “store up grace” for future emergencies, because God gives us the grace we need when we need it. Nobody, no matter how wealthy or gifted, can live two days at a time.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

When we learn to live a day at a time, confident of God’s care, it takes a great deal of pressure off our lives.

Of itself, suffering won’t make us holier men and women. Unless we yield to the Lord, turn to His Word, and trust Him to work in our lives, our suffering could make us bitter. We need that “spirit of faith”.

Amazing God

Psalm 147:5  Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Has a gospel song ever blessed you so that you play it again and again to town and back? I heard “AMAZING GOD” at a gospel concert last Saturday, and I’d like to share the blessing. The Triumphant Quartet sings it on U-Tube. They are pretty good singers. Here’s the words:

You want to hear the story. . . of how I’ve make it through when life is full of trouble, pain and fear?
The answer may sound simple: Though everything else crumbles,
One thing has remained through all the years.

CHORUS
I still serve. . . an Amazing God. . . He’s been with me every mile my weary feet have trod.
He still cares. . . He still hears, He’s still mending broken hearts and drying tears.
This old world. . . is bound to change, But I’m glad I know the One who always stays the same,
And my song will ever be, Amazing God, you’re still amazing me.

The God who parted waters still  makes a way today. He’s always brought me through the troubled seas.
The One who fed the thousands, Who’s word could calm the tempest,
He’s my bread of life, and He’s my peace.
CHORUS

Knowing God And The Hope Of His Calling

Ephesians 1:17-18 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Since we are made in the image of God, the better we know Him, the better we know ourselves and each other.

It’s not enough to know Him only as Savior. We must get to know Him as Father, Friend, and Guide. The better we know Him, the more satisfying our spiritual lives will be.

The hope that belongs to our calling should be a dynamic force in our lives, encouraging us to be pure, obedient, and faithful.

The fact that we shall one day see Christ and be like Him should motivate us to live like Christ today.

Sufficient Grace

Instead of Jesus healing Paul’s thorn in the flesh, The Lord  said it was a gift from God. What a strange gift! God wants to keep Paul from being “exalted above measure” (2 Cor. 12:7). But it hurts.

2 Corinthians 12:9  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

If Paul hadn’t had a thorn in his flesh he wouldn’t have known the power of God’s sufficient grace for his aggravation. He wouldn’t have known the perfect strength from God in his weakness.

I’m with Paul. “I’d rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

When you are going through suffering, spend extra time in the Word of God. He will speak to you. He gives sufficient grace to His children when they are afflicted.

Prayer And Supplication

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Talking to God about everything that concerns us and Him is the first step toward victory over worry.

Too often we rush into His presence and quickly spill our needs, but we ought to approach His throne calmly in deep reverence and  adoration. We ought to be submissive to His will as we make supplication. The Father enjoys hearing His children say, “Thank You.”

The four chapters of Philippians teach us the right way to pray.
If we have the single mind of Philippians 1, we can give adoration.
If we have the submissive mind of Philippians 2, we can come with supplication.
If we have the spiritual mind of Philippians 3, we can show our appreciation.
We must practice these if we are going to experience the secure mind of Philippians 4.

This is why Paul’s formula for peace is found at the end of Philippians.

Trials, Patience, And Perfect

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this , that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

There are four essentials for victory in trials:  A joyful attitude, an understanding mind, a surrendered will, and a heart that wants to believe.

If we value comfort more than character,  trials will upset us --- material and physical more than spiritual, we won’t be able to “count it all joy” ---  the present more than the future, trials will make us bitter, not better.

Job had the right outlook when he said, “But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10).

So when trials come, immediately give thanks to the Lord and adopt a joyful attitude. Don’t pretend; don’t try self-hypnosis; simply look at trials through the eyes of faith.

Faith is always tested
Testing works for us, not against us
Trials rightly used help us to mature
