Learning To Lean

God is never hurried by our worry. He doesn’t get excited when we struggle against the situation we find ourselves in, but I’ve found Him to be ever so near with comfort and grace to lighten the load.

Psalm 37:7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

We are told to rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

We are not to fret — to get worked up into a rage over the condition of the world or the valley we face. In today’s world, that’s hard to do.

But, remember that God is in control of it all. We need to pray about it.

We need to learn to lean on Jesus. John Stallings wrote a song about leaning.

“Sad broken hearted, at an alter I knelt, — I found peace that was so serene. — And all that He asks is a child like trust — And a heart that is learning to lean

“Learning to lean, — Learning to lean, — I'm learning to lean on Jesus; — Finding more power than I've ever dreamed, —  I'm learning to lean on Jesus.”

His Name Is Wonderful

When Jesus saves our souls, we are thankful and we praise Him.

As we read His Word and commune with Him in prayer, we come to know Him and appreciate Him even more.

He becomes more precious to us.

Our souls echo the words of the songwriter, Audrey Mieir.

“His name is Wonderful, — His name is Wonderful, — His name is Wonderful, — Jesus my Lord; — He is the mighty King, — Master of everything, — His name is Wonderful, — Jesus, my Lord.

“He's the great Shepherd, — the Rock of all ages, — Almighty God is He; — Bow down before Him, — love and adore Him, — His name is Wonderful, — Jesus, my Lord.

Praise His Holy Name

The truth that Jesus came into this world to set us free from our sins is a true motive for praise.

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

That He would love us enough to die for us and to save us by His grace is a thought beyond words to describe.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

So, If we can’t find any other reason to praise the Lord, surely we can praise Him because He loved us so much that He endured the pain, the shame and the horror of the cross to set us free from our sins.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Praise His holy name.

Peace Be Still

The disciples thought they were going to die in a storm because Jesus was asleep in the back of their ship.

Mark 4:38-39  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Jesus was able to calm the storm with a simple command, “Peace be still.” He has spoken the same powerful words time and again when I needed it most. I praise Him for those precious moments in my life.

There are no incurables with Jesus and no hopeless situations.

Whether salvation or healing or any worrisome situation, we can be assured that Jesus is the only hope we have.

“The winds and the waves shall obey Thy will; — peace, peace be still.”

The Good Shepherd.

If you know the Good Shepherd, you have plenty to be excited about.

Psalm 23:1-2 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

The Good Shepherd leads us into the green pastures of His Word, allowing us to graze on the riches therein.

He shelters us while we rest in the riches of His grace.

What a tender Shepherd!  He fights off the world so we have time to rest in Him.

The Good Shepherd tenderly meets our needs.

Do we take advantage of that privilege and provision?

I’m glad the Lord is my Shepherd.

It Takes Faith

There is only one life that pleases the Lord and it’s the life lived in faith.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

It takes faith to stand when others are falling, to serve God when those around you won't.

It takes faith to follow God into an unknown future, believing He will work things out for your good and His glory.

It takes faith to be a blind man looking for a miracle, to be a parent or a partner in marriage.

It takes faith to deal with sickness.

Faith is the knowledge that God is in absolute control of all the situations of life and that He is working in everything all the time

Parting The Red Sea

What a great Sunday School lesson today, and what a joy to teach it!

Pride and revenge prompted Pharaoh to force the fleeing Israelites back to slavery in Egypt. He made ready his 600 some chariots for a hot pursuit into the desert, certain to pin them between the mountains and the sea.

Moses had confidence in divine intervention, though he never imagined deliverance through the Red Sea.

Exodus 14:13-14 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

[14] The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

The waving of the rod was  important in the presence of the Israelites, to the character of Moses and the divine mission. God spoke to Moses.

Exodus 14:16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

And that’s what happened. When Pharaoh pursued the Israelites, wheels came off their chariots. It was chaos. Moses raised his rod again and the sea returned from both sides, drowning all of them.

Do you have a problem? The battle is the Lord’s. Give it to Him.
