The Rock Of My Salvation

Absalom had done everything in his power to destroy his own father and take his throne. The only reason David survived Absalom’s revolt was by the grace of God.

When this Psalm was written the rebellion is over, Absalom is dead, and David is headed home with sorrow in his heart. The son he loved more than life is gone.

Psalm 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. [3] For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

There may be a time when you or I cry out, overwhelmed with a grieving heart. What then? We ask the Lord to lead us to the The Rock of our salvation. I cried out twice on a hospital gurney, brushing death each time. Then the sweet spirit of God enveloped me in His comforting arms and I wasn't afraid. I'll never forget it.

When the worst happens, know that in spite of how you feel, what you think or how things look. Jesus has the power to get you through.

Psalm 145:18 The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Because He First Loved Me

The church I grew up in had testimony services sometimes. Different ones stood and told how the Lord had blessed them. The younger ones usually jumped up and said, “I love the Lord because He first loved me,” and sat down real fast.

Oh, how precious it is to love God! Man may not return our love, but God loved us first, and He loves us forever in spite of ourselves. Believers have many reasons to love the Lord.

He specializes in lifting the fallen and strengthening the weak in times of depression and distress. Think about the times He has lifted you.

He gave us salvation and eternal life, saving us from Hell and the power of sin. How many times has He replaced sorrow with joy and walked us through the trials of life. More than once God spared me from death.

Psalm 116:7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee. [8] For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

Walking Like Jesus

1 John 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. [6] He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

How did Jesus walk? He placed The Father’s will ahead of all things. He loved all men equally. He was compassionate toward others.

The only possible way for us to abide in Jesus is to spend time with Him, in His Word and in prayer. When we abide in Jesus we will walk like Jesus. We will bear fruit.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

What A Lovely Name

At the name of Jesus the citizens of Heaven shout and the citizens of Hell shudder. Our Lord’s name brings help to the helpless and peace to the tormented.

At the Name of Jesus the restless find rest and the hopeless find hope. Jesus comforts the comfortless like no other. His Name has cooled the fevered brow, broken the chains of sin, delivered the captive, and thrilled the saints.

Philippians 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There's just something about that name
Master, Savior, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away
But there's something about that name.

Have No Fear, God Is Near

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

We live in a world that often brings fear and uncertainty. God wants us to  take courage in Him. He will help us overcome our fears.

When God promises to be with you and your fears, that’s all you need. Believe it. The power of The Almighty, The Alpha and Omega -- The great I Am will hold you up and comfort you. Trust Him. He’s there.

Standing somewhere in the shadows you'll find Jesus
He's the only one who cares and understands.
Standing somewhere in the shadows you will find Him
And you'll know Him by the nail prints in his hand

The Law And The Blood

There are those in our day who don’t like the Bible to be preached in its entirety. They oppose preachers naming sin and holding people to God's standards.

Galatians 3:24-25 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. [25] But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

The Old Testament Law was given so that man could see his need of a Savior and turn to Him and be saved. It was never given as a means to righteousness or salvation! It can never save the soul, but it can point us to the One Who can and that’s Jesus.

When He died on the cross for our sins, Jesus fulfilled the Law and the righteous demands of the Law. Now, by placing our faith in Jesus, we can be eternally saved by grace through faith! Because of the precious blood sacrifice of Jesus, people can believe on Him and go to Heaven.

The Bible must continue to be preached in its entirety and sin must be named from the pulpit. Men need to see the truth about their sin and their condition. Until they do, they can never be saved..

We Delight Him

2 Samuel 22:20 He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

God worked in miraculous power, time and again to deliver David from those who wanted to destroy him. Why? because he delighted” in David.  This can be seen many times in the Bible: Elijah and the widow; the Three Hebrew boys; the 5,000; the Disciples on that boat, etc.

Luke 12:31-32  But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. [32] Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Imagine God taking pleasure in us!  Imagine God working on our behalf; moving mountains; meeting needs; working things out; just because we delight Him!  That’s something worth singing about!
