The Secret Of Contentment

Philippians 4:12-13  I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

In times of plenty trouble is rare. We may prosper, but there’s danger of getting our eyes off Jesus. In times of plenty souls are saved and God blesses.

In times of poverty we discipline ourselves to tighten our belts. We may have pity parties and whine.

The Apostle Paul knew the secret of contentment in plenty or poverty. Joy doesn’t lie in our circumstances, it is wholly of God in Jesus our Lord.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthene th me.

A Holy Calling

2 Timothy 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Before the world was created -- before Adam was formed --- before you and I were conceived, God called us with a holy calling. His purpose and grace was extended to us through Christ Jesus.

It was His grace that loved us, sought us, called us, saved us, keeps us and will take us home to Heaven. Thank you, Lord  Jesus for suffering on the cross for my salvation.

A look of love was on His face, and thorns were on His head.
Blood was on His scarlet robe; it was stand a crimson red.
Though His eyes were on the crowd that day, He looked ahead in time.
For when He was on the cross, I was on His mind.

For He knew me, yet He loved me, He whose glory makes the heavens shine.
I’m so unworthy of such mercy. When He was on the cross, I was on His mind.

Life Is Hard, But God Is Good

Those who fear God revere and adore and worship and honor and respect His Deity, His Holiness, and His Almighty Power and Wisdom. If you feel this way when you address your Lord and Savior, He gives you a guardian angel.

Psalm 34:7-8 The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

We serve an awesome God. Someone has said, “Life is hard, but God is good.” Yes, God is extremely good to those who trust Him and reverently fear Him. Do you want blessings. “Trust and see that the Lord is good.”

May We Never Forget

May we, the redeemed of Christ,  never forget our sinful condition when Jesus saved us – when He gave us eternal life.

Romans 6:22-23  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

May we never forget His compassion, His  suffering  on the cruel cross of Calvary.

His mission can be summed up in one word: Love. .

Regardless of what you do with Jesus today, you should never forget what He did for you on the cross.

Perfect Love

On this 2017 Valentine’s Day, the Fox and Friends cable show introduced, as the most famous love song of all time,  “I Want To Know What Love Is”.

I’d like to challenge  “the most famous love song of all time” statement.  Lyrics of love songs in my day were  more certain than “I want to know”. (I know, it’s just a song).

Married in 1965, the day before Valentine’s Day,  I picked wedding songs I thought we're  the “best” of all time -- songs like: “I’ll Be Loving You Always” and  “Whether Thou Goest, I Will Go”.

In today’s world, maybe – just maybe -- many don’t know what love is. Perhaps they are searching. I’d like to point them to the perfect love. The love of God is the highest, the widest, the longest, and the deepest love of all time, giving His son to be slaughtered like an animal for the sins of mankind.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God's Sovereign Grace

God’s grace is far more abundant than our sins. You aren’t going to Heaven by the skin of your teeth. If you are a born again Christian, you are going to Heaven held tightly in the grip of sovereign grace.

1 Timothy 1:14  And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

When grace came, it brought with it faith and love. It  allowed the Apostle Paul to love a Lord and a people he had formerly hated.

That’s what God’s grace in salvation will do for all believers. Salvation will change your life, completely, totally and eternally.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The Presence Of The Lord

The Lord hasn’t asked His children to carry the burdens of life alone. Sometimes we get weary of our struggles, but we can know that He is with us, holding us up, sometimes carrying us when we can’t stand alone. He promised.

Then sometimes we need to rest.

Matthew 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

When we walk in faith and  place our burdens on the Lord, He will take care of us. I’ve been there many times, not seeing the end of the tunnel yet feeling the serenity of His touch.

Thank you, Lord, for those times. They make the next trial somewhat easier, knowing your glory and power is all I need.
