What a Friend We Have in Jesus

John 15:13-14 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

There has never been a greater, nobler or more

costly display of love than that selfless moment

when Jesus died for us on the cross. His love for

us runs far deeper than we can comprehend!

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus, — All our sins and griefs to bear! —   What a privilege to carry   —   Everything to God in prayer.   —   Oh, what peace we often forfeit;  —  Oh, what needless pain we bear;  —  All because we do not carry   —   Everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? — Is there trouble anywhere? — We should never be discouraged, — Take it to the Lord in prayer. —  Can we find a friend so faithful, — Who will all our sorrows share? — Jesus knows our every weakness;   —   Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy-laden,   —   Cumbered with a load of care?   —   Precious Savior, still our refuge, — Take it to the Lord in prayer. — Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? — Take it to the Lord in prayer. — In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,   —   Thou wilt find a solace there.

Joseph M. Scriven,  1855

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms

Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

When we need a refuge from the shackles of life, we can run to our eternal God.

There is no safer place than underneath the everlasting arms of Jesus.

Praise God!

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,  —  Leaning on the everlasting arms; — What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,  — Leaning on the everlasting arms.

CHORUS:

Leaning, leaning,    —    Safe and secure from all alarms;    —  Leaning, leaning,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms.

Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms;  —  Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,  —    Leaning on the everlasting arms. - - -

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,    —    Leaning on the everlasting arms?  — I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,  —

Leaning on the everlasting arms. - - -

The Love of God

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Look no farther than the bloody cross of Calvary to see the extent of God’s love for you

God’s love is never ending - Jer. 31:3.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

[39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Love of God

The love of God is greater far    —    Than tongue or pen can ever tell;    —    It goes beyond the highest star,    —    And reaches to the lowest hell;  —  The guilty pair, bowed down with care,  —  God gave His Son to win;  —  His erring child He reconciled, —    And pardoned from his sin.

CHORUS:

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!    —    How measureless and strong!    —    It shall forevermore endure  —    The saints’ and angels’ song!

When years of time shall pass away,    —    And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,    —    When men who here refuse to pray;    —    On rocks and hills and mountains call,    —    God’s love so sure shall still endure,    —    All measureless and strong;    —    Redeeming grace to Adam’s race,    —    The saints’ and angels’ song. - - -

Could we with ink the ocean fill    —    And were the skies of parchment made.    —    Were every stalk on earth a quill    —    And every man a scribe by trade;    —    To write the love of God above    —    Would drain the ocean dry;  —  Nor could the scroll contain the whole,  —  Though stretched from sky to sky. - - -

Victory in Jesus

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The victory is not in us, but in Jesus.

When He came to this world, lived a perfect life, died on the cross and rose again from the dead, He defeated every enemy for us.

Those who are in Jesus are free from the sting of death.

It is just a passing from this world to that, 2 Cor. 5:1-5

Victory in Jesus

_______________

I heard an old, old story, —  How a Savior came from glory,  —  How He gave His life on Calvary — To save a wretch like me.  —  I heard about His groaning, —   Of His precious blood's atoning,   —    Then I repented of my sins   —    And won the victory.

CHORUS:

O victory in Jesus,   —    My Savior, forever.   —    He sought me and bought me   —    With His redeeming blood.   —    He loved me ere I knew Him,   —    And all my love is due Him.   —    He plunged me to victory   —    Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing, — Of His cleansing pow'r revealing, —  How He made the lame to walk again — And caused the blind to see. —  And then I cried, "Dear Jesus, —  Come and heal my broken spirit,"  —  And somehow Jesus came and bro't   —    To me the victory. - - -

I heard about a mansion  —  He has built for me in glory, —  And I heard about the streets of gold   —    Beyond the crystal sea;   —    About the angels singing,   —    And the old redemption story,   —    And some sweet day I'll sing up there   —    The song of victory. - - -

Have A Little Faith

Romans 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Galatians 3:9  So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Faith in God moves mountains

Abraham was a great example of faith.

The Statler Brothers sang this song as did Gale’s sister, Janice.

Have A Little Faith

________________________

God told Abraham to go to Canaan land   —   And start a brand new life and be a brand new man.   —   He took his wife and nephew and did as he was told, —  But it's hard startin' over at seventy-five years old. — But God said, "Abraham, look, for as far as you see,   —   All of that land is a gift from Me."   —   It's a lesson for the learnin' for the likes of you and me.   —   Just have a little faith and you'll see.

Well, Abraham was closin' in on ninety and nine,   —   And Sarah, bless her heart, wasn't very far behind.   —   When God stopped in to visit in the heat of the day.   —   Said, "Pretty soon, there'll be a baby comin' your way."   —   But Sarah laughed and said, "No, I don't believe that it's true.   —   Me with a child, with an old man like you?"   —   It's a lesson for the learnin' for the likes of you and me.   —   Just have a little faith and you'll see.

God said, "Abraham, it's time for a big sacrifice.   —   Build yourself a fire and sharpen up your knife.   —   Take your little boy, Isaac, and put him in the flame.  —  And kill him and burn him in God's Holy name,"  —  Then God said, "Abraham, don't! It was only a test.   —   You passed with flyin' colors ahead of the rest."    —   It's a lesson for the learnin' for the likes of you and me.   —   Just have a little faith and you'll see.

The father of the faithful, the leader of the clan;   —   He started out as just a simple country man.   —   But God loved Abraham, and Abraham loved Him.   —   It's a story to remember when your faith is growin' dim.   —   And you get tired and you say, "Ah, it was different back then.”   —   But remember that they were only just men.   —   It's a lesson for the learnin' for the likes of you and me   —   Just have a little faith and you'll see.

In the Name of the Lord

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

In the name of the Lord, we know  security.

No one can pluck us out of God’s hands.

What a beautiful picture this is!

In the Name of the Lord

The crowds have lined the narrow street  —    To see this man from Galilee.   —  “Just a carpenter,” some say, “leading fools astray.” — Yet many kneel to give Him praise,  —    And in His eyes they glimpse the power  —    That sees the heart of all men.  —    And He knows His Father's mind.  —    He speaks His Father's words,  —    For He comes in the name of the Lord.

CHORUS:

There is strength in the name of the Lord.  —  There is power in the name of the Lord.  —  There is hope in the name of the Lord.  —  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

When my plans have fallen through,  —    And when my strength is nearly gone;  —  When there's nothing left to do —  But just depend on you —  And the power of your name. — And when we call upon your name, —  Your strength through weakness to show;  —    We can know the Master's plan,  —    Extend the Master's hand  —    When we come in the name of the Lord. - - -

His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

[30] But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

[31] Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

If God knows where the sparrow is, He knows where you are.

You are of great value to Him. He loves you.

His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Why should I feel discouraged? — Why should the shadows come? —  Why should my heart be lonely —  And long for heav’n and home? —  When Jesus is my portion,  —  My constant Friend is He:  —  His eye is on the sparrow,    —    And I know He watches me.

CHORUS:

I sing because I’m happy,    —    I sing because I’m free;   —    For His eye is on the sparrow,    —    And I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,”    —    His tender words I hear;   —    And resting on His goodness,  —  I lose my doubts and fears. —  Though by the path He leadeth,    —    But one step I may see;   —    His eye is on the sparrow,    —    And I know He watches me. - - -

Whenever I am tempted,  —  Whenever clouds arise,  —   When songs give place to sighing,    —    When hope within me dies,   —    I draw the closer to Him,    —    From care He sets me free;   —    His eye is on the sparrow,    —    And I know He watches me. - - -
