Mama

A teacher gave her class of second graders a lesson on the magnet and what it does. The next day on a written test she included this question: “My full name has six letters. The first one is M. I pick up things. What am I?” Almost fifty percent answered with the word “Mother”.

Until I had my own children I probably didn’t appreciate the depth of Mama’s loving sacrifice and care for us rascals. I had three. She had twelve. How did she keep up with us?

We never lacked for love, homemade clothes, homemade butter, home-grown frying hens, and home-canned fruits and vegetables from the garden. Mama seldom sat down.

Saturday night baths were a huge task. Heating bath water, hanging the privacy sheet over the door, dragging the oblong tub to the kitchen, pouring and emptying water -- Mama made sure we were clean and our clothes ready for Sunday School. Church was a priority with Mama.

Thank you, Mama (RIP). I love you.

Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Happy Mother's Day!

Mercy And Grace

I got saved at a tent revival when I was nine. I’ll never forget it. I love the redemption story of the Apostle Paul and how it displays the abundant mercy and grace of Jesus.

1 Timothy 1:12-14  And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;  Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.  And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Mercy withheld the wrath of God when Paul persecuted the church and blasphemed the name of Jesus.

Grace – greater than any sin -- came to him on the Damascus Road, confronted him concerning his sins, and saved his soul. What a change!  What a testimony!

Do you have a testimony of faith? God’s Grace saves all who believe on Jesus by faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

When Life Overwhelms Us

Absalom has done his best to take his father’s throne, even his life. So David is exiled from his home and family.  Overwhelmed, he cries out to God for help.

Psalm 61:2-3 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

Sometimes life overwhelms believers as well. When those times come we may think the Lord doesn’t care, but He does. We may think we have to beg for His attention. We don’t.

The Lord has already promised to hear us when we call on Him.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

God listens for your voice because He is your Father and you are HIs child.

The Highest Form Of Worship

Without question, the highest form of spiritual worship to the Lord will bring Him the most glory.

Worship should be the priority of every believer's life – all that we are, reacting to all that God is.

When we are drawing every ounce of strength from Him -- when we are totally dependent upon Him for everything we do, have, are, and ever hope to be -- then we are in a position to glorify the Lord in the highest form of worship.

For sure, the life of the believer ought to be summed up in one word: “Worship”.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

God Does Not Sleep

After a bombing in London during WWII, people began the search through rubble for dead and injured bodies. All were accounted for except one old grandmother, a Mrs. Smith.

Later they found her in her bedroom asleep in her bed. When asked how she could sleep through all the bombing, her answer was priceless.

“Well, the Bible says that ‘He who keeps Israel never slumbers nor sleeps’. I decided there was no use for both of us staying up, so I just went to sleep and left it in the Lord’s hands.”

Psalm 121:4  Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

We can rest in Jesus in the midst of bombs or hurricanes or car wrecks or whatever stirs our fears. The lord let me sleep like a baby through Hurricane Ike a few years ago.

That's Him

Should anyone ask me where to find Jesus in the Bible, I will start at the beginning

THAT’S HIM - - - -
In Creation
In the cradle
In Control of disaster, disease, and death
On the cross
Rising from the grave
Ascending to Heaven
Wearing the crown
Returning
Reigning

If you need a Savior --- that's Him.
If you need a friend --- that's Him.
If you have a need that must be met --- that’s Him.
If you need forgiveness --- ask Him.
If you want to miss Hell and go to Heaven --- believe in Him.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Peace, Be Still

As the disciples feared the angry waves, Jesus peacefully slept in the boat.

You see, He knew what they didn’t. They wouldn’t drown at sea because He was headed to a cross and the disciples were destined to spread the gospel.

Jesus knows what’s beyond the storms in your life and mine. He knows how He will use them to grow our faith and abundantly bless us.

Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Jesus has given me many “great calms”.  I get goose bumps remembering them.

He will do the same for you. What a mighty God we serve.
