A Godly Mother

On Saturday nights at our house Mama heated water on the stove. We didn’t have inside plumbing (no hot water or rest room). She carried an  aluminum tub in the kitchen where it was warm and hung a blanket over the door into the living room for privacy. We bathed so we would be clean for Sunday. She would  scurry around till midnight sometimes, preparing our Sunday clothes.

Earlier in the day she had killed a few chickens and prepared them for frying after church. She also made  a few  pies. On the way to church she did her final “clean-face-scan" in the crowded car. Some of us got a spit bath.

Fathers are to be the head of the home, but mothers are often the backbone, the one that keeps the family together and functional. There’s a special bond between a mother and her children.

Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Tarry Ye Here And Watch

Mark 14:33-34 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; [34] And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

We can’t  imagine the struggle our Lord faced in Gethsemane as He began to look toward Calvary and the suffering He would endure. The physical torment is beyond comprehension, not to mention the agony of the holy, sinless Savior bearing the sins of the world.

Peter, James, and John had slept through Christ’s prayer. Rather than finding strength and help for what was about to happen, they  found themselves weak and unsure. A few moments later when Jesus was arrested they fled in fear.

It’s important that we spend time with the Lord and seek His strength and guidance.  In the good times we must prepare for the storm.

Don’t allow an attitude of complacency to bring weakness to your life.

From Splendor To The Cross

The crucifixion of Christ was the greatest injustice ever committed, but it wasn’t in vain.

Romans 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Jesus left the splendor of heaven, came robed in flesh to purchase our redemption. He knew by submitting to the cross that He was fulfilling His Father’s will. He was aware of why He came. Isn’t it amazing that He came at all, knowing what was in store?

Jesus came to earth as a Sin Sacrifice for all. He  doesn’t see folks as we do. He doesn’t see a worthless addict, an abusive spouse, or a convicted felon; he sees a soul in need of salvation. I’m glad He saw me. I’m glad I believed on Him. I’m glad by His grace He keeps me saved, because I’m not perfect.

The Bible Is A Spiritual Book

Rom.11:33 – O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

The Holy Spirit searches the truths of God and reveals them to His people as they grow and mature in the Lord. This is why many claim they can’t understand the Bible. It’s a spiritual book that requires spiritual discernment.

The Spirit speaks truth so we can grow in our faith and better serve the Lord while reaching others for Christ. The closer we walk with God, hearing from Him through the Spirit, the more divine truth we receive from His Word.

Are we committed to learning more of God and sharing the Gospel with a world that desperately needs to hear?

To Be Content

The Apostle Paul  knew how to be content when everything fell apart. He learned that  joy doesn’t lie in our circumstances but wholly in Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

If everything has to be right for you to be happy, then get used to miserable, for you will be there awhile!

But -- in God’s will and in His time  --   you can rise above any situation or circumstance in life.

Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

In our weakness, Jesus gives us His ability and makes us partakers of His power when we trust his strength.

When we walk in obedience to His will for our lives, we can rest assured that He will meet all of our needs!

The Foolishness Of Preaching

1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Salvation  is as simple as hearing and receiving the preached Word. Millions have been saved over thousands of years by hearing and responding by faith to the "Good News" of the Gospel of Christ.

The Apostle Paul said,  But we preach Christ crucified... That’s the central theme of the Gospel. It centers on the  sacrifice Christ made on behalf of sinners. Christ lived, died, was buried, and rose again: that’s the Gospel message.

The Lord has placed us here to share the “Good News” we have received. Not everyone  will  respond and believe, but some will. It may sound foolish to some, but it is precious to me. Spread the "Good News".

When God Calls

When God stirs up your nest, that’s His call for you to become involved with Him in what He is about to do. When that call comes, people respond in different ways. Isaiah responded eagerly.

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Jonah tried to run from God (Jonah 1:1-3), and Moses saw the vision but tried to take matters into his own hands (Ex. 2:11-14). Jonah and Moses are brought to the place where they have to wait on God, and the job gets done the right way.

Has God placed a burden on your heart? Don’t hesitate. Go with Him into whatever He calls you to do. He has a great plan, and nothing is greater than being allowed to be a part of that plan!
