Growing In The Lord

Believers  seem to have the idea that when we live right we are entitled to blessings. Though we will receive blessings, this isn’t always the case. Some of God’s most precious saints have endured the greatest affliction.

Paul - 2 Cor. 11:23-28
Daniel - Dan. 6
The Hebrew Three - Dan. 3
David and all the trials of his life
Jesus was called “a man of sorrows.” - Isa. 53:3

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

We never learn what God can do in our lives until we are put in a place where we need Him to do it. That’s where we learn to trust Him. That’s where we grow in the Lord.

The valleys of life are God’s classroom. That’s where He trains us for greater service. The blessings will come.

Headlines From Heaven

What if heaven published a newspaper? What would the headlines say? I believe they would be about Jesus because he is the Centerpiece of Heaven.

Colossians 1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Headlines from Heaven:

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD

IT IS FINISHED

THE LORD IS RISEN INDEED

I GO TO PREPARE A PLACE FOR YOU

SURELY I COME QUICKLY

SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD

WHOSOEVER WILL LET HIM COME

BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED

How To Live Godly

I want to live godly In my walk with the LORD, but sometimes I fall short because I’m not perfect. I need help with this. Thank God for unconditional  love and amazing mercy.

Believers who practice godliness understand that God truly is an awesome God, and they strive at every turn to please Him. The Apostle Paul instructed the Christians at Rome how to live godly.

Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Being Humble

When we see God as He really is and ourselves as we really are, we will humble ourselves before Him.

James 4:10  Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Believers  would do well to remember:
Where we came from
That God is holy
That God hates sin
That God  judges sin
That true repentance restores fellowship with God

  • Ephesians 2:13. But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Take Courage

Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.

We may reveal a wimpish heart void of guts and bravery in the face of danger or extreme difficulty.

I recall a time or two. I learned that God answers loud, quick, stuttering prayers.

Got a problem? Take courage. Your hope is in the Lord. He will strengthen your heart.

Our Best

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:  And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

I’d like to think that I give God my best, but sometimes I fail. Sometimes I  try to lead when I should follow God’s  lead. We need to ask the Lord to search our hearts and reveal the wrong things in our lives.

Consider substitutes we might be  giving God instead of our best.

Doing God’s work with our effort instead of trusting the power of God
Living like the world instead of Godly standards
LivIng in compromise instead of total commitment
Accepting worldly substitutes instead of the presence and power of God
Offering God excuses instead of humble obedience
Pretending all is well instead of humbling ourselves before the Lord in repentance of sin

When we forget to read God’s word, pray and submit to His will every day, it’s easy to mingle the flesh with the spiritual. We need to ask the Lord to help us and lead us in His ways.

God Taking Pleasure In Us

David has done it all: a shepherd, a soldier, a singer, and a sinner.  He has been known as the Son of Jesse,  David the King, a Man After God’s Own Heart, and The Sweet Psalmist of Israel. Nearing the end of his life, he writes a final praise song. Here's a fragment.

2 Samuel 22:19-20 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.  He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

Those who abide in The Lord enjoy the same relationship. He will move heaven and earth to meet the needs of His child.

Imagine God taking pleasure in us. Imagine the Almighty working on our behalf; moving mountains-- meeting needs--working out obsticals just because we delight Him. That’s something worth singing about.
