Jesus First

The Colossian believers were guilty of hiding Jesus behind a bunch of manmade rules, regulations and foolish ideas. As a result, they fell into error and the Apostle Paul had to remind them of who Jesus is.

Colossians 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Nothing is as important as Jesus. Nothing is to come before Him. Nothing is to outshine Him. He is to be first in our lives, in our families, in our priorities, in our churches, in our dreams, in our worship -- in everything.

Study His doctrines, ask for guidance and truth. Praise Him.

The Secret Hiding Place

Psalm 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

This was the assurance that allowed David to face Goliath. the confidence that kept Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and the assurance that gripped the heart of Daniel!

We can have that assurance when we abide in Christ. The Lord still hides us away in His pavilion to provide safety and joy, especially during our battles! The enemies of life may threaten, but they are powerless to reach us when we are sheltered by the Lord!

I want to abide in that secret place because I need  a protector, a provider, someone to put me in a place of safety where I can see Him and experience His grace and glory. Thank God, we can have that intimate relationship with Him.

The High Calling

Philippians 3:13-15 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, [14] I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [15] Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Is there anything in your life that hinders you from having a focused, vital, growing relationship with the Lord Jesus like the Apostle Paul?

To know Him in salvation is just the beginning! Every mile reveals more of His glory to the seeking pilgrim! Every valley proves His sweetness. Every burden His grace. Every step is fragrant with His power and presence in the life of the believer.

Do you know Him? Not just know about Him, that is never enough! Do you know Him personally and intimately? Repent and believe on Jesus.

Do We Forget?

The Nation of Israel seemed to forget the awesome miracles God performed, delivering them from Egypt and leading them to Canaan.

Do we forget what God has done for us? Has He spoken peace to our storms? How many times has He met our impossible needs? We should remember those times when our next problem arrives. We should grab this scripture.

Ephesians 3:20,21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Believers don’t have to be defeated or discouraged. Lay your doubts and your fears to rest at the feet of Jesus.

The House Of The Lord

Psalm 122:1  I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord .

David found overwhelming joy in going to the house of the Lord. The same should be true of believers. If we want that overwhelming joy, we have to practice love, demonstrate forgiveness, live in tolerance, and offer restoration.

The redeemed are united by the precious blood of Jesus. When we worship Him in Spirit and truth, we won’t forget why we go to church. We will want to fellowship with each other – a lot. My church has pot-luck at the drop of a hat. We love sweet fellowship.

You will notice we say brother and sister ‘round here
It’s because we’re a family and these folks are so near
When one has a problem we all shed a tear
And rejoice in each victory of this family so dear

Believers Belong To The Lord

We, as believers, are not here to please the world or submit to its demands. We belong to the Lord and are obligated to live for Him every day and in every way! All that we are and all we ever hope to be is in Christ and Christ alone.

Acts 4:12 – Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

We are called to be a holy people, separated from the world and unto the Lord. Our service will be greatly hindered if we fail to live consecrated lives!

The Apostle Paul gave great advice to the Colossians that will go a long way to keep us a holy people consecrated to the Lord.

Col. 2:8 – Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

A Good Decision

Paul wanted The Christians at Ephesus  to rid their hearts of the cares and lusts of the flesh and make room for the Lord. This wasn’t just for Sunday, but every day.

Ephesians 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; [17] That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; . . . .

Christ dwells in the heart of the believer. But if we aren’t careful, over time  we can allow so much flesh-clutter in that we crowd him to the side.

I pray our hearts are  consumed with the presence and power of Christ every day. I pray that we are rooted and grounded in His love. So, how do we do that? We make a decision to put God first regardless of circumstances. We schedule daily Bible study and prayer.

When I was  a working mom, always rushing, finding time to read the Bible was difficult. I knew  it was the most important thing I would do all day, but how? I prayed and then came to a decision. The following morning I got up thirty minutes earlier, drove thirty-three miles to work, and sat in a huge parking lot, alone with the Word of God.
