In My Heart There Rings A Melody

Nothing is more indicative of a Spirit-filled life than a heart overflowing with joy and spilling out in song.

Ephesians 5:19  Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Singing the Psalms help us learn the Word of God. A couple that come to mind are, “How Excellent Is Thy Name,” which is a musical rendering of Psalm 8, and “From The Rising Of The Sun,” which is from Psalm 113.

Thank God for the old hymns of the faith that teach us truth and doctrine, that reveal the glory of God.

Songs like “Amazing Grace,” “Rock of Ages,” “A Mighty Fortress,” “There Is A Fountain,” “How Great Thou Art,” “All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name.” Hundreds of others could be named.

Spiritual Songs refer to soulful music. This would include choruses, lighter arrangements, and popular music.

Songs like “There’s Just Something About That Name,” “God Is So Good,” and “His Name Is Wonderful,”  “There Is Coming A Day,” “I’d Rather Have Jesus,” “New Grace,” “Farther Along,” and “Thanks To Calvary” to name a few.

Sometimes these songs hang around for a generation or two and then fade away. Others endure through the ages.

Just because the trend today is away from the doctrinally rich hymns of yesterday, we do not have to abandon them.

In my heart there rings a melody.

“I have a song that Jesus gave me  —   It was sent from heav'n above.  —   There never was a sweeter melody,  —   'Tis a melody of love.

Chorus:
“In my heart there rings a melody,  —   There rings a melody with heaven's harmony.  —   In my heart there rings a melody,  —   There rings a melody of love.

“I love the Christ who died on Calv'ry   —   For He washed my sins away.  —   He put within my heart a melody,  —   And I know it's there to stay.

“'Twill be my endless theme in glory  —   With the angels I will sing.  —   'Twill be a song with glorious harmony  —   When the courts of heaven ring.”

I’ll Fly Away

Thank God for all Jesus accomplished when He came the first time, but He ascended back to Heaven, Acts 1:9-10, leaving His church here to preach the Gospel to the lost.

He also left them with the promise that He will come again; Acts 1:11; John 14:1-3; Rev. 22:20.

The Second Coming of Christ can be divided into two separate comings:

[1]. His coming in the air at the Rapture.  He doesn’t actually come to earth at this time.

[2]. His coming to the earth later—sometimes called the “Revelation,” “Second Advent,” or the “Second Coming.”

I’m looking forward to the Rapture, and it could be any time.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

[17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be “caught up” together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

One moment we will be living life as normal, the next moment we will be “caught up”  to be with Him in the air, 1 Cor. 15:51-52;  Luke 17:34-36.

Jesus isn’t coming in the clouds for everyone, only for those who have been saved by the grace of God.

Albert Brumley from Southwest Missouri penned the words to a song my church still sings —  “I’ll Fly Away”. It reminds me of the hope I have in the Rapture.

I’ll fly away.

“Some glad morning when this life is o’er  —  I'll fly away.  —  To a home on God's celestial shore,  —  I'll fly away.

Chorus
“I'll fly away, oh glory,  —  I'll fly away (in the morning).  —  When I die Hallelujah, by and by;  —  I'll fly away.

“When the shadows of this life have gone,  —  I'll fly away.  —  Like a bird from prison bars have flown,  —  I'll fly away.

“Just a few more weary days and then  —  I'll fly away;  —  To a land where joys will never end,  —  I'll fly away.”

Where Could I Go?

Psalm 121:2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

The real source of our help is Almighty God. He isn’t just a friend or an ally, but the Creator of the universe.

Think about it. If God can make this world, then surely, He has the power to take care of His people.

What a truth! Our helper is none other than the very One who stood on the edge of nothing and made everything with the Word of His power.

He is able to help you and me - Eph. 3:20.  Isa. 40:12.

Isaiah 40:12 Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

Where could I go but to the Lord?

‘Living below in this old sinful world,  —  Hardly a comfort can afford.  —  Striving alone to face temptations sore.  —  Where could I go but to the Lord?

Chorus
“Where could I go? O Where could I go?  —  Seeking a refuge for my soul.  —  Needing a friend to help me in the end.  —  Where could I go but to the Lord?

“Neighbors are kind, I love them everyone,  —  We get along in sweet accord.  —  But when my soul needs mannna from above,  —  Where could I go but to the Lord?

“Life here is grand with friends I love so dear,  —  Comfort I get from God's own word  —  Yet when I face the chilling hand of death,  —  Where could I go but to the Lord?”

Teach Me, Lord To Wait

Regardless of how well we may have handled situations in the past, there is always the possibility that we will grow weak under the various loads of life.

When we rest in God’s unfailing strength, we will have our own strength renewed out of His abundant, unending recourses.

When we learn to hope in the Lord — to wait on the Lord — He has a way of helping us break free from the things that bind us.

So, keep on praying, even when it appears that He isn’t hearing.

Keep on going to church, even when it seems nothing much is happening.

Keep on witnessing even when no one gets saved.

Keep on living for Jesus, day in and day out, even when others around you fall away.

In His time, He will bless you and reward you for being faithful during the routine times of life.

Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Teach me, Lord to wait.
______________________

Teach me, Lord, to wait down on my knees  —   Till in your own good time you answer my pleas  —   Teach me not to rely on what others do  —   But to wait in prayer for the answer from you.

Chorus
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;  —   They shall mount up with wings as eagles.  —   They shall run and not be weary;   —   They shall walk and not faint.  —   Teach me, Lord; teach me, Lord, to wait.

“Teach me, Lord, to wait while hearts are a flame.  —   Help me humble myself and call on Your name.  —   Keep my faith renewed,, my eyes on Thee.  —   Help me be on this earth what You want me to be.”

This Is Just What Heaven Means To Me

According to God’s Word, every person who is saved is a pilgrim and a stranger in this world, 1 Pet. 2:11.

We are headed to our.Heavenly home, John 14:1-3, but, along the way there are many elements of this life that trouble us and hinder our progress.

Evil bullies like death, disease, discouragement, depression, and the devil make our journey difficult.

The things that trouble us here will not be allowed to follow us  home.

Some day the journey will be over, and we will be safely at home in our Father’s house —  a place of peace, safety and perfection.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

This is Just What Heaven Means to Me

“A country where no twilight shadows deepen;  —  Unending day when light will never be;  —  A city where no storm clouds ever gather;  —  This is just what heaven means to me.

Chorus
“What will it be when we get over yonder,  —  To join the throng upon the glassy sea?  —  We'll greet our loved ones and crown Christ forever.  —  This is just what heaven means to me.

“A place where there is no misunderstanding,  —  And from all enmity and strife, we're free.  —  No unkind words which wound the heart are spoken.  —  This is just what heaven means to me.

“And when at last we see the face of Jesus,  —  Before whose image other loves all flee.  —  And when they crown him lord of all I'll be there.  —  This is just what Heaven means to me.”

All That Thrills My Soul Is Jesus

Psalm 32:11  Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

The people of God can rest in the arms of divine sovereignty, knowing that their God loves them and will take care of them.

When we walk close to Him, feast daily on His Word, and communicate often with Him; we enjoy the best this world has to offer.

We have every reason to lift our voices and praise the Lord.

All that thrills my soul is Jesus.

“All that thrills my soul is Jesus.   —   Ev’ry day and ev’ry hour;   —   Jesus and His free salvation,   —   Jesus and His mighty pow’r.

Chorus
“All that thrills my soul is Jesus;   —   He is more than life to me;   —   And the fairest of ten-thousand,   —   In my blessed Lord I see.

“Love of Christ so freely given   —  Grace of God beyond degree.   —   Mercy higher than the heavens,   —   Deeper than the deepest sea.

“What a wonderful redemption,   —   Never can a mortal know.   —   How my sin, though red like crimson,   —   Can be whiter than the snow.

“Every need His hand supplying,   —   Every good in Him I see.   —   On His strength divine relying,   —   He is all in all to me.

“By the crystal flowing river   —   With the ransomed I will sing.   —   And forever and forever   —   Praise and glorify the King.

Chorus
“All that thrills my soul is Jesus;   —   He is more than life to me;   —   And the fairest of ten-thousand,   —   In my blessed Lord I see.”

He Touched Me

Mark 1:40-42 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

[41] And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

[42] And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

When Jesus touched this man with leprosy, His touch said, “I love you just like you are and I am here to help you.”

When Jesus came into this world He came into our world. He shared our pain and our suffering.

He died on the cross and took our sins upon Himself that He might touch us and change us by His grace and power.

When Jesus touches a life He literally makes them into “new creatures” by His amazing power, 2 Cor. 5:17

His gives them a “new birth”, John 3:3, 7, and they are never the same!

He touched me.

“Shackled by a heavy burden,  —  'Neath a load of guilt and shame.  —  Then the hand of Jesus touched me,  —  And now I am no longer the same.

Chorus
“He touched me, Oh He touched me,  —  And oh the joy that floods my soul!  —  Something happened and now I know,  —
He touched me and made me whole.

“Since I met this blessed Savior,  —  Since He cleansed and made me whole,  —  I will never cease to praise Him,  —  I'll shout it while eternity rolls.”
