His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

[30] But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

[31] Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Do we sometimes forget how precious we are to God? I do.

So why is it so hard to turn our problems over to Him, thinking He doesn’t care?

He cares.  We are precious to Him now and even in death.

Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me. Praise Him.

If It Had Not Been The Lord

Psalm 124:1,8   If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, now may Israel say; . . . .
[8] Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

If not for the Lord, I wouldn’t have strength to make it through cancer.  —

. . . . I wouldn’t know the joy of salvation.

. . . . I couldn’t rejoice in the glory of His presence.

When I didn’t understand, He gave me peace with understanding.

When I strayed, He was there all the time, drawing me back, receiving me with outstretched arms.

He has been in every battle I’ve ever faced.

If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where wouldI be?

Chorus
“If it had not been for the Lord on my side,  —  Where would I be? Where would I be?  —  If it had not been for the Lord on my side,  —  Where would I be? Where would I be?

“He kept my enemies away.  —  He let the sun shine through a cloudy day.  —  He wrapped me in the cradle of his arms  —  When he knew I'd been battered and torn, so

“If it had not been for the Lord on my side,  —  Where would I be? Where would I be?

“He never left me all alone.  —  He gave me peace and joy I've never known.  —  He answered when I knelt down to pray, —  And in victory, the Lord showed me the way, so

“If it had not been for the Lord on my side,  —  Where would I be? Where would I be?”

God Works In Mysterious Ways

Many people don’t want to believe it, but God is in charge of all of life, even disruptions.

Psalm 37:23-24 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

The Lord sends the valley seasons to develop us and to make us more like the Lord Jesus, Rom. 8:29; Eph. 4:13.

William Cowper, the great hymn writer (including There Is A Fountain), often lived in depression.

One day He hired a carriage driver to take him to London Bridge, planning to throw himself into the river and end his life.

On the way to the bridge they found themselves driving for hours in dense fog. Frustrated, Cowper demanded that the driver stop and let him out to walk.

When he stepped from the carriage, he was shocked to find that he was standing in front of his own door.

It became apparent to him that the Lord still had a use for his life. He entered his home and penned the words to that famous song, “God works in mysterious ways”.

When we are in the valley, we need a fresh encounter with the Lord!

God moves in a mysterious way. —  His wonders to perform;  —  He plants His footsteps in the sea  —  And rides upon the storm.  — Deep in unfathomable mines  —  Of never failing skill,  —  He treasures up His bright designs  —  And works His sovereign will.

“Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;  —  The clouds ye so much dread  —  Are big with mercy and shall break  —  In blessings on your head.  Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,  —  But trust Him for His grace;  —  Behind a frowning providence  —  He hides a smiling face.

“His purposes will ripen fast,  —  Unfolding every hour;  —  The bud may have a bitter taste,  —. But sweet will be the flower.  —   Blind unbelief is sure to err  —  And scan His work in vain;  —  God is His own interpreter,  —  And He will make it plain.”

William Cowper 1731-1800

How Great Thou Art

Psalm 111:1 Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in theassembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

Praise originates in the assembly of the upright, in the congregation.

It’s in praise that our hearts and thoughts are focused on the Lord.  It’s in praise that God’s people encourage each other.

Psalm 111:10  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

Those who praise the Lord will also fear him out of respect,  submission, wisdom, understanding, and obedience.

“O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,  —  Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made;  —  I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,  —  Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus:
“Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,  —  How great Thou art! How great Thou art!  —  Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,  —  How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

“When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,  —  And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.  —  When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur,  —  And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

“And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;  —  Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;  — That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,  —  He bled and died to take away my sin.

“When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,  —  And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.  —  Then shall I bow, in humble adoration,  —  And there proclaim, "My God, how great Thou art!"

He Whispers Sweet Peace To Me

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

[7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

There are some precious promises that can be ours if we can come to the place where we refuse to allow worry to be our master. We can learn to bring our needs to him.

We are promised His peace — tranquility of the soul, where we are calm in the heart and mind despite the fact that turmoil and strife are raging around us.

It’s a mysterious thing, but it’s God’s gift to those who will trust in Him “in everything”.

He whispers sweet peace to me.

“Sometimes when misgivings darken the day,  —  And faith's light I cannot see;  —  I ask my dear Lord to brighten the way,  —  He whispers sweet peace to me.

CHORUS
“He whispers sweet peace to me, —  He whispers sweet peace to me,  —  When I am cast down in spirit and soul,  —  He whispers sweet peace to me.

“I could not go on without Him I know,
This world would o'er whelm my soul;
For I could not see the right way to go,
When temptations o'er me roll.

“I trust Him thru faith, by faith hold His hand, And Some-times my faith is weak; And then when I ask Him to take command, it seems that I hear Him speak.

CHORUS
“He whispers sweet peace to me, —  He whispers sweet peace to me,  —  When I am cast down in spirit and soul,  —  He whispers sweet peace to me.

“He speaks in a still, small voice we are told,
A voice that dispels all fear;
And when I'm in doubt, or troubled in soul,
That still, small voice I can hear.

CHORUS
“He whispers sweet peace to me, —  He whispers sweet peace to me,  —  When I am cast down in spirit and soul,  —  He whispers sweet peace to me.

This World Is Not My Home

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

[17] For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

[18] While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

We are challenged to get our eyes off this world with it’s sin, it’s problems, and It’s coronavirus.

Live in the truth of who you are in Jesus Christ.

You are a pilgrim and a stranger. You are just a person passing through this world on your way home.

Along the way, you will become disillusioned, defeated, and discouraged; but you do not have to lose heart.

God can and will help you make the journey home with glory in your soul if you will keep your eyes on Him, and not on what you see.

“This world is not my home,  —. I'm just a passing through,  —  My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;  —. The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door,  —. And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Chorus
“O Lord, I know, I have no friend like you,  —. If Heaven's not my home, O Lord what can I do?  —. The angels beckon me from Heaven's open door. —  And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

“The saints in glory land. —  are shouting victory.  —  I want to join their band and live eternally;  —  I hear the sweetest praise  —  from heaven's open door,  —. And I can't feel at home.In this world anymore.”

Under His Wings

Psalm 61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

David looks back over his life and  remembers God giving him victory as a boy over a lion and a bear and even a giant.

He remembers God sheltering him from the murderous rage of king Saul and from the wrath of his own son.

David remembers that in every trial he ever faced, God gave him a place of safety and protection, and he is certain that God will not fail him now.

Trials that are influenced by faith look back, realizing that the way God has worked in the past is an indication of how He will work today. Mal. 3:6; Heb. 13:8

Psalm 91:4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
—————————————————

“Under His wings I am safely abiding.  —  Tho' the night deepens and tempests are wild,  —  Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me.  —  He has redeemed me, and I am His child.

Refrain:
“Under His wings, —  under His wings,  —  Who from His love can sever?  —  Under His wings my soul shall abide,  —  Safely abide forever.

“Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow!  —  How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!  —. Often when earth has no balm for my healing,  —  There I find comfort, and there I am blest.

“Under His wings, oh, what precious enjoyment!  —  There will I hide till life’s trials are o’er;  —  Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me.  —  Resting in Jesus, I’m safe evermore.”
William G. Cushing.
