Christians can be depressed. Jailed for prophesying gloom and doom for Israel, Jeremiah fought depression, weeping and wishing he had never been born.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. I Corinthians 10:13
God will never put more on you than you can handle. Depressed believers need to cling to that promise, to know God is in control. Jeremiah wanted to stop prophesying but couldn’t.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. Jeremiah 10:9
Christians need to forgive folks who battle depression. Depressed people need to be motivated to give it to God. Daily bible reading helps us to focus. Stay connected with your church family. Don’t be ashamed of depression. Some types of diagnosed depression may also be treated with medicine.
