Vine, Branch, Fruit
Our spiritual growth in Christ is perfectly illustrated by a vine and a branch. Like the branch flourishes from the vine, we gather strength from Christ. We can't produce fruit by ourselves.
Jesus is the True Vine. We are the branches. The Father is the gardener who oversees the productivity of His vineyard.
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.
If faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love abound in a believer's life, they are bearing fruit.
God disciplines fruitless Christians for their good, that they may share in His holiness. He disciplines those he loves, and it will last as long as they resist.
God prunes fruitful branches, cleansing sin from the life of believers, making them more fruitful.
Not abiding in Christ means loss of fellowship, vitality, and rewards. Restore fellowship by confessing sins and submitting to God's will.
