One day the Father in heaven is going to say to His Son, "Son, go get your bride." The only warning we will have that Jesus is coming will be the blowing of a trumpet and the angel shouting, "Behold the bridegroom cometh." (1 Thes. 4:13-18 ). Those unprepared (unsaved) will be left behind.
Almost everything that is important to me is in heaven: My Savior -- Fellow believers -- Friends and family members -- My inheritance -- My treasure.
Mark Hitchcock suggests a study of heaven will have five practical effects upon our lives:
- Restores our hope in times of suffering (Romans 8:18 )
- Reassures us that God is on the throne (Revelation 4:1-3)
- Reminds us that this world is not all there is (Philippians 3:20)
- Refocuses us on the nature of true treasure (Matthew 6:19-21)
- Reignites our fervor to serve The Lord (Isaiah 6:1-8 )
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
