When daddy blessed the food at our crowded kitchen table, after he said “Amen” we had to be quick and brave to reach for our favorite piece of fried chicken. We might get forked. But I wanted that chicken leg and I went for it even if I was a little kid and way too slow. Mama started putting one back for me. Thank God for Mamas.
I never had to develop an appetite for Mama’s fried chicken, but later on I developed an appetite for coffee. It was much later that I developed an appetite for the Word of God. That’s when I began to grow—to mature in the Lord. That’s when I went from the milk of the Word to the meat of the Word.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Pastor Jerry Locke suggests If you are having trouble having time reading the Bible everyday, here’s a suggestion. Its radical, so buckle your seat belts. Cancel the newspaper, don’t renew your magazine subscriptions, unplug your TV. And begin by reading the Bible every day. It’s a simple fact: The more you read other things the less you will read the Bible. And the less you will develop an appetite for God’s Word.
When we lose our appetite for the pure Word of God we become spiritually anemic. We don’t enjoy all the blessings The Lord has to offer in His inspired Word..
