With a new year nearby, we are about to enter the unknown. We don’t know what 2016 will bring or how much following Jesus is going to cost us.
The Apostle Paul gives advice on how to live our lives next year. He spent some time encouraging the Philippian church to be humble and submissive to the Father. The challenge is to all believers.
Philippians 2:12-13 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
We don’t work out our own salvation to be saved (Eph. 2;8-9). Salvation is by grace---not by works. These people were already saved. Paul is challenging us to allow the Holy Spirit to make our Christian life all it can be for God.
God moves in our lives and brings us into His work. He reveals His will to us, coaxes us and empowers us to do it.
Why in fear and trembling? Because God’s business is serious business.
