The Israelites in captivity seem sure the glory days of the past are gone, even the God who blessed them.
But God reminds them that He was with them when they crossed the Red Sea, gave them food and water in the desert, and the Holy Cloud and fire to lead them on their journey.
Haggai 2:5. According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remains among you: fear ye not.
He is saying, “Abraham is gone. Moses is gone. David is gone. Solomon is gone. The first beautiful Temple is gone. But I am still here. Fear not.”
Far too often we get caught up in “old time” yesterday, forgetting that the God of yesterday is still here and just as ready to bless today as He did years ago.
Our main concern is to forget the past and reach forth to the future, Phil. 3:13, to do the Lord’s work. He will meet with us and bless us for His glory. Heb. 12:1-2.
