Some in the Colossian church searched for deeper thangs, things that would make them more spiritual. They resorted to human philosophy, legalism (works of the flesh), and even mystics.
Paul reminded them that all they needed was found in the Word of God. They merely needed to follow it.
Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
