Mary Did You Know?

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

How much did Mary know about that holy thing she was chosen to give birth to?  Within the lyrics of the beautiful song Mary Did You Know, Mark Lowry and Buddy Green askEd her.

Mary, did you know your baby boy will walk on water, save your sons and daughters, heal the blind and lame and the deaf? Did you know that He’s the Great I Am?

Mary knew better than anyone that this child was the Son of God. I can only speculate, if one can, how she pondered these things in her heart as she watched Jesus grow up within the family. He was perfect.

When He began His public ministry, I don’t believe the miracles surprised Mary. She must’ve been proud. Did she understand when Jesus said He must be about His Father’s business?  I can only imagine how she agonized at the foot of the Cross, seeing Him slaughtered like a Lamb and hanging on a cross.

Sunday, I’ll play Mary Did You Know for offertory, worshipping the Great I Am and taking pleasure in the flow and cadence of the music. All the while I’ll be thinking: she knew.
