A teacher gave her class of second graders a lesson on the magnet and what it does. The next day on a written test she included this question: “My full name has six letters. The first one is M. I pick up things. What am I?” Almost fifty percent answered with the word “Mother”.
Until I had my own children I probably didn’t appreciate the depth of Mama’s loving sacrifice and care for us rascals. I had three. She had twelve. How did she keep up with us?
We never lacked for love, homemade clothes, homemade butter, home-grown frying hens, and home-canned fruits and vegetables from the garden. Mama seldom sat down.
Saturday night baths were a huge task. Heating bath water, hanging the privacy sheet over the door, dragging the oblong tub to the kitchen, pouring and emptying water -- Mama made sure we were clean and our clothes ready for Sunday School. Church was a priority with Mama.
Thank you, Mama (RIP). I love you.
