1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Jesus calls our trials precious – more precious than refined gold. The refining process of gold is subjected to a flame that causes the impurities and dross in the gold to come to the top. Now the gold is far purer than before.
The same is true in the life of the believer. When Jesus allows us to go through the furnace of affliction and trials, it removes from our lives things that were not needed. It brings us into a closer and purer relationship with Him.
We learn to lean on Jesus and grow through our trials. We don’t like them. We may not understand them, but Christians aren’t exempt from trials. The Apostle Paul had many.
Like the shepherd in Psalm 23, Jesus doesn’t leave us or forsake us. He ever abides with his own in our trial. His grace is always sufficient (2 Cor. 12:9).
