Now and then I’m amazed at on-line responses to news stories related to religion. It seems that some pick and choose scripture to justify their view. Some even say doctrine isn’t important as long as we “know Jesus”. The Apostle Paul says all scripture is profitable.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Doctrine is the fundamentals of Christianity---the deep things of God inspired scripture. We should never base our belief on feelings or experiences or what someone we admire believes. God wants us to study His Word and find truth for ourselves. His Spirit will give believers understanding if they ask.
Scripture reveals your shortcomings and tells how to fix what’s wrong in your life. It tells you to repent and believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who redeems sinners by His sacrifice on the cruel cross and gives eternal life.
If the Word of God is read, believed and lived, you will become more like Jesus.
John Chapter One is a great place to start daily Bible study. Matthew thru Revelation is also good. I love the Old Testament, too. Oh well, It’s all good.
