Ephesians 5:1-2 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
“And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us.” I look at this command and see real problems. We can never completely imitate Jesus. You see, God is perfect---we are flawed. God is omnipotent---we are weak. God is Spirit---we are flesh.
Left to ourselves, we can never imitate God, but believers are told to do so as “dear children”. It’s natural for children to imitate their parents---ever learning, observing, and growing.
Our Lord is holy; we are to be holy. He is loving; we are to be loving. He forgives; we are to forgive. We are to be truthful, patient, kind, and compassionate like Christ. God has empowered us to live holy lives for His glory.
